Anti-LGBT Governor Pat McCrory concedes to Roy Cooper in governor’s race bit.ly/2guOeLf

McCrory, who became the first sitting North Carolina governor to lose a re-election bid, was weighed down by a series of divisive laws he signed, including House Bill 2.
That law limited LGBT rights and directed transgender people to use restrooms in schools and government buildings corresponding to the sex listed on their birth certificates. It led to companies, sports organizations and entertainers pulling their business from the state, costing hundreds of jobs and millions of dollars in spending.

Trans rights activists scored a major win this year. Now they’re fighting to keep it.

As the 2016 election lurches to a close, activists in Massachusetts are already looking ahead to the 2018 midterms to protect recent gains for transgender people across the state.
In July, Gov. Charlie Baker signed into law a bill that prohibits discrimination against trans people in public spaces, a broad category that includes banks, businesses, government buildings, and crucially, hospitals and medical clinics.

Transgender Law Center and GSA Network, TRUTH is a national storytelling and movement-building campaign that aims to build a network of transgender and gender nonconforming young people changing narratives around gender by telling their own stories in their own ways.
The National TRans yoUTH (TRUTH) Council will help lead a youth movement for transgender justice by working with other transgender and gender nonconforming youth to share their stories, create media campaigns, and organize with TGNC folks on a national level. In recognition of the effort and work council members are expected to put in, a stipend will be included.

#ChynaGibson is the third reported murder of a Black transgender woman this month.

Transgender woman Chyna Doll Dupree was shot and killed outside of a shopping center in New Orleans Saturday night, according to the Times-Picayune.
Dupree was also a drag performer. Though the Times-Picayune did identify her as trans, it also chose to “dead name” Dupree, meaning it used her birth name in the story.

The responsibility for these murders goes beyond those who shot, stabbed and strangled them. We are complicit as a society. At least 265 trans people have been killed in Mexico since 1995. And we should take responsibility.
